A restaurant in California has shut down after a man accidentally shot himself in his foot, authorities said.
Alberto Alvarado was standing in line at the restaurant on Friday afternoon when he pulled out a firearm and accidentally fired the gun, San Bernardino County Sheriff Joe Lombardo said at a news conference Monday.
He was rushed to a hospital, where he died.
Lombardo said the gun was not registered to him.
A restaurant employee, who asked not to be identified, said Alvarados wife told her that she was worried about him.
“The whole family was very upset.
Everyone thought he was going to die,” the employee said.
He had a long criminal record and was being monitored by local police, according to Lombardo.
The sheriff said the shooting was not random.
It happened during a “very stressful day for him” and his family, Lombardo added.
